Girls’ tights are usually worn by babies and girls from birth right up to 16yearsold. Girls tights are most commonly associated as forming part of girls’ school uniforms, especially grey and white varieties but they are also popular for everyday wear.

Girls’ tights are normally made of nylon and a lot of them will usually contain added Lycra. Most girls wear girls’ tights to school and these usually come in plain, neutral colours such as black, white and grey and are usually opaque and over 80 denier. Many are also available in woollen varieties.

In America, as a rule, any hosiery that is classified as being up to 40 denier thick is known as pantyhose. Any hosiery that is over 40 denier thick are called tights. However, people in the UK classify almost all varieties of hosiery with the label tights and it is a generic term that covers everything from girls’ tights to stockings to fishnets. Girls tights and socks made by manufacturers such as Pretty Polly, Aristoc, New Look, Topshop, Miss Selfridge and Marks and Spencer’s are particularly fashionable. Marks and Spencer’s specialise in girls tights for school uniforms whereas the high street stores are more for fashion.

Girls’ tights also come in a variety of colours to wear to parties or everyday. Shades such as pink and red are particularly popular. They’re also available patterned, ribbed or as glitter tights. Other examples of girls’ hosiery include leg warmers, kneehigh and ankle socks, the latter being popular with lace frills, ribbons and turnovers. Girls’ tights can often be smaller versions of the womens’ ranges so come in a variety of styles and colours as seen in the adult collections.
