The frequent occurrence of ladders in tights causes irritation for most of us. Is there any way of stopping this and protecting your old ones from getting bigger? Well, read on for a few tips that may help.

The ease with which one can snag a hole in tights is down to the flimsy material that they are made from. A good tip for protecting your tights from this is to have shorter nails which have been filed to ensure a smooth edge. After all, there’s nothing worse than ripping a hold in a new pair of tights the first time you wear them!

For those who must retain their long nails, you could try wearing a pair of rubber gloves when putting on your tights. Also, unless it’s an absolute compulsion, you could wear a thicker version of tights which are likely to be less pregnable to snags.

But what do you do if you already have a ladder in your tights? Well, there’re a few things that you could do to prevent further damage, apart from putting on a fresh pair.

One option is to apply clear nail varnish on the edges of the rip to provide a seal for them, and stop the ladder from growing. The earlier this is done, the more chance you have of getting away with it. Another application that can be tried is rubbing soap over the ladder in a similar fashion to the varnish, as it dries the edges and should hold out till the time to change.

And for those of your looking for a less visible fix, there is hope! Research has helped in developing a new material that gives a sticky nature to the broken ends, meaning that one could repair a gap simply by pushing the edges together. The uses for such an elastic material are huge: from glass to medicine; and even tights!

However, until this new product enters the market, carry a bottle of nail varnish or make sure of easy access to soap. Of course, if you are more ladder-prone than the average person, you can carry an extra pair of tights with you. Either way, you can avoid worrying about ladders and continue enjoying your day.
